Have you ever experienced taking a shower or bathing in the tub and water suddenly backs up into or comes up in it? It’s inconvenient and annoying… And exactly what this week’s client was experiencing!
We received a call from a homeowner in North Richland Hills, Texas, because their shower and bathtub would back up whenever they used the washing machine. This was an urgent case since it could quickly lead to more severe damage if not repaired.
The reason why the water was backing up was because of their clogged pipe. Even a partial obstruction in the pipe can result in situations like this. If this problem occurs often, then it’s likely that the pipes weren’t constructed well as it cannot handle a large volume of water at that point of entry. To address the issue, the pipe usually needs to be adjusted or replaced so it can control the amount of water passing through.
But this isn’t a one-solution-fixes-all type of thing, and a person who doesn’t know much about plumbing might do more harm than good. What you need a professional plumber to diagnose, address, and repair these issues.
Expert Plumbing Solution Provider Heads Over to North Richland Hills
To fix their plumbing problem, we cut out the S-trap and removed the galvanized pipe. For the cold side of the hall bathroom tub valve, we used 1/2” sweat barbed adapter, 1/2” pex coupling, and 8’ of 1/2” pipe. We then replaced the galvanized pipe we removed earlier with PEX pipe. PEX is a great piping material that is not only flexible. It can also adapt to different temperatures from hot to cold, which makes it perfect for the pipes that run from their bathtub and shower. Plus, pipes like this can last over 40-50 years, so it’ll be a while before you’d have to replace them again!
Our plumbers were able to fix the water back-up. Now, the drain from the shower and tub no longer expel unclean water whenever they use their washing machine. The homeowner doesn’t have to worry about the flooding and the health risks that came with their problem.
